The top 3
Texas returns to No. 1 as Alabama (down six) and Tennessee (down four) drop from the top four after upset losses to unranked opponents. Texas is one of three teams to hold the top AP ranking so far this season β all three from the SEC (previously Georgia and Alabama).
The Longhorns earned 1516 poll points, with 52 of the 61 first-place votes.
Ohio State climbed to No. 2 with 1473 poll points and 9 first-place votes after wearing down unranked Iowaβs solid defense for a 35-7 win.
No. 3 Oregon (1348 poll points) climbs to its highest AP ranking of the season after mostly dominating unranked Michigan State 31-10.
Ohio State visits Oregon in a Week 7 top-3 B1G showdown with ESPN College GameDay onsite.
ACC adds 4th spot
The ACC added a fourth spot this week, led by No. 6 Miami climbing two spots in spite of surviving a near-upset with a 39-38 comeback win at unranked Cal βΒ the second week in a row Miami narrowly escaped an unranked upset thanks to heavily questioned late-game replay reviews.
Also Ranked for the ACC are No. 10 Clemson (up five spots), and poll newcomers No. 22 Pitt and No. 25 SMU βΒ both ranked for the first time this season.
Louisville dropped from the Top 25 after a 34-27 conference loss to SMU.
B1G takes six spots
B1G teams ranked include No. 2 Ohio State, No. 3 Oregon, No. 4 Penn State, No. 18 Indiana (up five), No. 23 Illinois, and No. 24 Michigan dropping 14 spots after losing 27-17 to unranked Washington.
Even with USCβs exit from the Top 25 on a 24-17 loss to unranked Minnesota, at least six Big Ten teams have factored in the AP rankings each week so far this season.
Oregon climbed three spots to No. 3 ahead of their Week 7 ESPN College GameDay showdown with No. 2 Ohio State at Autzen Stadium.
